Howsham Mill has received a great deal of support from volunteers over the years, and we continue to rely on volunteer effort to look after the mill and the island.

Howsham Mill is seeking a Volunteer Trustee with responsibility for finance
In 2009, the Renewable Heritage Trust set up the Howsham Power Company. It is this company which sells electricity to the grid. Profits all go to the Renewable Heritage Trust, who use the funding to maintain Howsham Mill and to promote its use as an environmental education centre.
We are looking for someone with a background in finance to join us as a Finance Trustee. As Finance Trustee, you would be expected to attend the majority of the bi-monthly trustee meetings and our AGM. A part-time bookkeeper takes care of the day-to-day finance. As Volunteer Finance Trustee, you would supervise the work of the bookkeeper, and maintain an overview of the finances for both the Renewable Heritage Trust and Howsham Power Company, keeping all the trustees abreast of any issues.
We currently have seven volunteer trustees whose strengths include hydropower expertise, knowledge of biodiversity, an interest in history and a background in education; we also fund a part-time freelance education officer.

Volunteer Guides
The Renewable Heritage Trust is looking for volunteer guides to show casual visitors around on Sundays and public holidays. After winning two national awards, we anticipate more such visitors in future. If you enjoy meeting people and could help in showing off this special building, we would like to hear from you. You can do as few or as many days as you like and full training will be provided.
