Energy Island
Learn about renewable energy at Howsham Mill – we generate hydroelectricity using a waterwheel and two Archimedes screw turbines. Make models to support understanding of renewable energy: a waterwheel and solar oven.
Typical day:
10.00am – 10.45am – welcome / tour / health and safety
10.45am – 11.45am – make solar ovens; set up data logger to record temperature over the day
11.45am – 12.45pm – lunch to include s’mores cooked over the fire
12.45pm – 1.30pm – make waterwheels
1.30pm – 1.45pm – look at solar over data logger results
1.45pm – plenary and walk back to bus
