HOME EDUCATION – FOREST SCHOOLS – CASE STUDY

Children doing home working with a wooden hammer

For the past few years, Helen has led a monthly group for home-educated children and their families.  Helen is a Level 3 Forest Schools practitioner, so some sessions have been ‘Forest School’ sessions. Others have been other types of outdoor learning.  Activities have included whittling, fire building, craft activities and den building.

Groups have been limited to 15 children, and although they are open to children up to the age of 11, the majority of attendees lately have been younger.  We have accomodated children in these groups with a range of special needs and have provided a variety of different activities which children can choose to engage in.  Often children have come up with their own activities and themes.  One of my favourites was the creation of a wooden horse on wheels!
