Adaptation (Evolution and Inheritance) – UKS2

Adaptation (Evolution and Inheritance) – UKS2

Picture1

Children explore camouflage, and how this adaptation helps animals to survive and reproduce.

Typical day:

10.00am – 10.45am – welcome / tour / health and safety

10.45am – 11.45am – Camouflage caterpillars game in 2 different habitats.  Write conclusion linking camouflage to adaptation.

11.45am – 12.45pm – lunch to include s’mores cooked over the fire

12.45pm – 1.45pm – Minibeast hunt.  Record which minibeasts were found in which habitats, noting the colour of the minibeasts.

Additional plant adaptation activity if time allows.

1.45pm – plenary and walk back to bus

Possible learning objectives:

  • identify how animals and plants are adapted to suit their environment in different ways and that adaptation may lead to evolution
